Organic Textured Cotton Blankets
Only three Natural and Organic items were used. Cotton from India, Soil from Italy, France and the USA. Home-Crafted Soy Milk.
The next group of blankets will be using natural dyes from plants.

Organic cotton, grown and spun in India. Mud dyed (stained) with organic soil. The mud dyeing gives the cloth a soft earthly color.
Over the last couple of years going down rabbit holes about clothing, I needed something new for spring markets. I have done scarfs and tea towels, but it just did not fit Llano Fiber.
So, with the full moon in Aquarius and a bolt of loom woven cotton it is time to test the waters for handcrafted clothing.

Texture
I wanted to add more texture to the next blanket on the loom. I am using two thickness of yarn, 3/2 and 5/2 cotton yarns switching between every third row.

Wraps and throws using organic linen yarns from Belgium and Hungry and hand spun wild Himalayan nettle fiber from Nepal.
All are handwoven on a 50+ year old wooden loom, in the Texas Hill Country.

It has been a while since I have dyed with some color. The earthy feel from this textured organic cotton yarn from India, I decided to use some organic earth pigments for my color. I am mud dyeing (staining) with mineral oxides, the green is from Italy and the red is from France. Now the curing phase begins for about two weeks outdoors.

I just received a new package last night from Bihar, India.
5 Kilo’s each of Cotton Fesua, Cotton Salvage & Sari Silk.
The cotton fesua yarn (also known as throwster yarn) is the cotton waste from the carding of the cotton for spinning. The local villagers gather the waste and hand spin it into yarn.
The cotton salvage is the edges of the woven bulks of fabric that is cut off and discarded.
And the sari silk is the non usable threads from making silk saris. It also is hand spun into yarn.
All these “yarn” will be repurposed into new blankets and throws.
Texture Weave
I wanted to add more texture to the draft I had on the loom. By doubling up on some of my floating wefts, it gave it a mocked loop pile look.
